William Bush

William Bush, a Master Craftsman, has been designing and building custom furnishings for the past 30 years. His creations make use of many media. These include wood, stone, glass and metal. In sum, what his techniques accomplish is the creation of an amalgam which expresses the relationship between creativity and materials.

Allan Fosella

A lifelong woodworker, Allan Fosella specializes in boat building. His shop in Schroon Lake, NY focuses on the construction and restoration of Adirondack guideboats, other small wooden watercraft, canvas canoes, custom-made oars and paddles, and seat caning.

John Miller

John Miller creates unique custom pieces. His artistry, while inherent, draws upon experience in woodworking, carpentry, jewelry making, and surfboard construction. He has a graduate degree in mechanical engineering from RPI which provides a strong foundation for the design phase of his projects. This is then followed by meticulous mechanics and finish. David Mobley

David Mobley is the owner of Windhover Studios, which specializes in executing custom designs in wood and related media and creating sculptural pieces. He describes his sculpture as “not strictly representational, but symbolic,” and inspired by the forms, textures, and colors of nature. He applies a background in engineering to the technical aspects of his craft. Dave is one of the founding members and a former President of NWA. His studio is located in Niskayuna, NY.

Tom Osborne

Tom Osborne has more than 32 years experience with wood working, having worked as a professional and as of late a semi-pro; he also considers some of woodworking a hobby. He has designed and built a number of sets of cabinets for clients and made furniture by commission for individuals, companies, and non profit customers. At present he is working on a contemporary box design that he is further developing into case work pieces. He has been involved with NWA for many years and regularly teaches NWA classes. The NWA has given him the commission to build six hand planes that will be presented as awards to the person giving the annual Fiske Memorial Lecture.

Frank Pirkle

"RusticWood Art" - brought to you by Frank Pirkle. Specializing in the design and construction of rustic wood art, furniture and free-form sculpture that flows from "releasing the spirit of the wood to fulfill its own unique character." While working the wood in many techniques and methods over the years, he has finally settled into a more non-traditional form of hand working with the use of hand cut wood joinery. Much of the wood he uses, comes from his own land, where it is slab cut and air dried before being made into works of beautiful 'wood art'. 

Frank's shop is found in a restored late 1700's post and beam English Barn located in Franklin, NH, where he can be found most of the time.

Hilary Russell

Director of the Berkshire Boat Building School in Sheffield, MA, Hilary Russell has helped adults and youngsters build more than one hundred canoes, kayaks, and pulling boats. He has perfected the use of tough nylon and polyester skins over white cedar and spruce frames, producing light, durable, beautiful vessels. New plans and partial kits for these boats are now available through www.berkshireboatbuildingschool.org. You can read detailed plans of how to build Hilary's eleven foot solo canoe in the Nov./Dec.'08 and Jan./Feb.'09 issues of WoodenBoat magazine. Jim Smith

Thomas Wetzel

Thomas has been making handmade Windsor chairs and settees for almost two decades. His work has been commissioned by museums and collectors from the US and Europe. His work has appeared in Fine Woodworking Magazine and he has been listed as one of Early American Life Magazine 200 Best Crafters. Every custom piece is designed and created by Thomas. Aside from building chairs, he also teaches chairmaking. Thomas is currently designing several pieces incorporating his appreciation of traditional tools with his love of natural design.
